June 16, 2004 Darien at the parkwith me...

Feb 13, 2004 Darien fell asleep on the table eating dinner.

Aug 4, 2003 Darien scraped his foot the other day and took a bit of fleash off. So you can see along with him being cute in the picture he also has his foot bandaged.

June 29, 2003 Darien celebrated his second Birthday with the a family Birthday Party. On July 1, 2003 Darien had his 2 year Doctor's appointment. He weighs 27 1/2 lbs., he is 35" tall and his head is 50cm. in circumference which is 49% in weight, 75% in height and 75% in circumference.

June 08, 2003 Here are some new pictures of Darien.

May 12, 2003 Finally took some more pictures of Darien. Esther (Grandma) Vissers was cutting Darien's hair and he jerked away and the clippers cut a large chunk of hair out. You can see it in these pics on the back of his head.

Novemeber 30, 2002 Darien fell asleep in his chair and it was kind of funny so I had to take some pictures of it. Reminds me of my father sleeping in a lounge chair!

Sept 04,2002 Just the Bare Essentials

August 15, 2002 We went to the park today for lunch with some friends (The Morgan Family) and they took this picture of Darien in the swing. Click on the picture for a larger photo.

July 30, 2002 Today Darien took his first steps today. Basically two steps from the table to the couch's end table. After I yelled at Lori to come see, he took another few steps away from the end table.

July 01, 2002 Here are his first Birthday pictures. You are going to love the ones with the cake all over him!

June 22, 2002 Here are some more photos. He also just started understanding the word 'No'. He was doing something I didn't want him to, I said 'No' and much to my surprise he stopped, turned, looked at me, stuck his bottom lip out and started crying. I also put up a small video clip...

Today I took some foot castings of Darien to give to the Grandmothers for Mothers Day. We waited until he was asleep then dunked his foot in the latex mold. He was perfect (only his dad didn’t make the best mold) so we will have to see how it turns out. He also is crawling like crazy, loves to stand on things, even walks around the furniture like a champ. He is starting to experiment with sitting down and standing up on his own, but hasn’t really mastered that yet. He also is pointing at things and clapping his hands. I just can’t wait for him to start talking!

Darien was dedicated at Church today, and I got a new memory chip for the camera so I've thrown a bunch very recent photo's including the family photo's from the dedication. Everything went really well, Darien even slept threw the entire dedication ceremony and ended up waking up exactly as it finished. Holding him the whole time I can testify that he is getting heavy. He had one of his 'wellness' check-ups with his Doctor and weighed just under 20lbs. He's learned to crawl forward so we've had to really keep a closer eye on him, but he also loves to stand so I suspect he'll just want to walk instead of crawl (can you blame him). A dear friend of mine (Ron Wellman) told me some time ago that after having a hard day and work, he'll come dragging into the house and his daughters will run up to him and give him a big hug....and all the weight of the world melts away. Well now when I come home from work and as soon as Darien see's me he'll light right up and give me the biggest smile...and guess what...the weight of the world mets away.

Some more new pictures of him I took when he was being completely adorable. He's really verbalizing now, in fact sometimes when he cries I can almost hear him say 'Ma Ma'. :) He can crawl backwards pretty well right now, and rolls like a champ. I am expecting any day for him to realize he can crawl forwards. He also has discovered my entertainment center (loves to play with the amp conrols) so I am going to have to come up with a way to keep him out of that.

Jan 30, 2002 Some new pictures of him smiling on the couch. Also today he started pushing up with his hands and feet, and scooted backwards!. I guess that is the first step toward crawling forward...

Jan 14, 2002 Some new pictures, these are some of my favorites.

Dec 3, 2001 Couldn't resist these, the 'I'm getting a bath' pictures. Click on the fthumbnails for full sized ones....they are REALLY big in size so it may take a while to download.

Oct 28, 2001 More Pictures

Sept 15, 2001  Darien is 11 weeks today, and I can’t believe how big he is getting. It was kind of funny but after he was born the number one piece of advice  I received from other fathers was ‘Enjoy the time when he is small, because he will grow up quickly’.   I knew they were correct, but I really didn’t ‘understand’ until I started watching Darien grow up.  He has almost doubled in weight (approx 12.5lbs now) and is starting to get those pudgy legs.

Another wonderful bit of news is that he is consistently sleeping 7-9 hours at night.  It’s kind of a funny story, he was sleeping around 4-5 hours at a time, but would wake up, fidget in the middle of the night and start crying.   A bit of formula and a little rocking and he’d be back asleep.  We’ll my father has started making tapes for Darien of him reading books, so I hooked up my old high school boom box in Darien’s room so I could play them.  One night after playing a tape for Darien I flipped on the radio to our local classical station (WKAR FM90.5) and let it play all night at a low volume.  When Lori and I awoke in the morning we quickly surmised that neither of us had gotten up with him and he had slept threw the night.  Needless to say, we’ve kept the radio on every since.

I think he is even beginning to become a fan of classical music.  I took Lori and I a little time to figure out, but he seemed to wake up at 7:15 every morning.  Then Lori realized that the radio station switches over to news around that time.  He just can’t get enough ‘real’ music!

As far as his motor skills are involved, he seems to have slowed down a bit.  He can stand up (can’t balance…I have to hold him) but he loves to lock those legs and stand upright.  He also is tracking things with his eyes fine, but hasn’t really figured out yet how coordinate between his hand movement and what he sees.  He is also really close to turning over, it’s been kind of nice being able to put him on the couch and not have to worry abut him rolling off, I know those days are numbered.  His big talent is laying on his back and scooting across the floor with his legs.

The other day my Sister and Brother in-law where over and he let a big burp.   Everyone said 'oh good boy' and fawned over him.  A similar experience happens when babies have a ‘full’ diaper.  Lori and I were joking that when he gets older, we will scold him for doing the same things, an interesting reflection on acceptable behavior and how it differs based on age..

One a last note…let me just say, the Dept. of Defense should stop biological warfare research, and just collect diapers from babies like Darien…trust me the enemy wouldn’t have a chance.  -- Richard
